Jennifer Sarja is a writer and educator with more than 24 years of teaching experience. Currently, Jen teaches English at High School in the Community, a New Haven magnet school for social justice, leadership and public policy. Jen has been a long-standing advocate for building activism in youth. As the founder and Director of YouthInkwell in Pasadena, CA, she developed a program incorporating writing lessons with discussions of social justice. To give her students an avenue for action, she established the nonprofit YouthInkwell Publishing, which allowed young writers and illustrators to write or illustrate their own books to sell. Profits were used to raise awareness about the global water crisis and to support well-building efforts in East Africa. Jennifer is also the author of children’s book, When Watute Wants Some Water, and the film, The Bumblebee Flies Anyway, starring Elijah Wood. She currently lives in East Haven, CT where she enjoys spending time with her family and her two senior dogs, George (12) and Ginger (9).
